Dialup Details

We suggest:

1) If you have Open Transport, use it or FreePPP2.6.2

2) If your operating system is 7.1-7.6 and you do not have Open Transport use FreePPP2.6.2. This is a free download from Rockstar Studios. Use this to replace older versions of FreePPP. The connection will be more stable and will result in faster downloads. If you prefer, email us or call us at (703)281-2150 and we will send you a copy on disk.

Open Transport

Entries are needed in three control panels

1) TCP/IP

• Connect to : PPP
• Configure: Using PPP Server
• IP Address: No entry
• Subnet mask: No entry
• Router Address: No entry
• Name server address:
• 204.252.76.2
• 206.67.154.2
• Search Domains:
• auth01.cs.net
• auth02.cs.net

2) PPP

• Connect via: modem
• Connection: registered user
• Enter your username and password
• Check "save password"
• Enter dialup number: 703 761 3138
• Options:
• "Redial", "
• connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications",
• "set idle time"

3) Modem

• Select your modem in the control panel modem list. If it is not on the list try another modem by the same maker or the Hayes modem. For each modem on the list, there is a modem script in the modem script control panel. If you need a modem script try the makers website, or use FreePPP.

FreePPP 2.6.2

The FreePPP installer will, in most cases, use setting values already in the machine. Thus, there are two ways to proceed

1. Replace the values now in the machine with the new ones, then install FreePPP2.6.2, or
2. Install FreePPP2.6.2 first, then change the settings.

To make entries in FreePPP2.6.2, click on the telephone in the control strip, then on Open FreePPP Setup. Click so that the small triangle on the left points downward, The settings are:

• General:
• Connect via Cyber Services
• From : Home
• Using: Generic modem
• Click on : Allow applications to open connection
• Disconnect if idle for 17 minutes
• Open TCP/IP: Settings here are identical to those for Open Transport TCP/IP, except for Connect via FreePPP.
• Accounts:
• Cyber Services
• Edit
• Account: Cyber Services
• Connect: Directly
• Insert user name and password
• Click on reconnect automatically
• Dialup : Area Code 703
  • Phone number; 761 3138
  • Dial area code (if outside 703 area)
• Options:
• Domain Name: auth01.cs.net
• Primary DNS: 204.252.76.2
• Secondary DNS: 206.67.154.2
• IP Address Assigned by PPP Server
• Locations: Home
• Edit:
  • When account area code does not match location area code: Dial long distance prefix before account area code
  • Other boxes can be left blank

Modems: Generic Modem

• Edit:
• FreePPP Modem Configuration
• Modem config name: Generic Modem
• Connected to : Modem Port
• Port Speed: 57600 bps
• Flow Control : CTS &RTS(DTR)
• Dial Type: Tone
• Check:
  • Speaker enabled
  • Hang up on disconnect
  • Fast Modem initialization
  • Autodetect init string

Email

• In Eudora go to Settings in Special Menu
• Change
• POP Account to [username]@pop.cs.net
• Return address to [username]@cs.net
• SMTP to smtp.cs.net

Make these changes on all the forms(getting Started, Password info, hosts, etc.)
